Q&A with Sara:
Where did you grow up and where have you lived?
I like to claim Pittsburgh as my hometown (but only lived there a few short months after birth). I was primarily raised in Chesapeake. My family moved to Tupelo, Mississippi (shout out to Elvis!) then back to Chesapeake. I’ve lived in Norfolk, Portsmouth and currently reside in Virginia Beach.
What’s one of the nerdiest things you’ve done that may surprise others?
In junior high I participated in “Odyssey of the Minds;” a team put together to develop creative problem-solving skills. Our mission was to navigate around the gym using pre-selected materials like a broom handle, sponge, one tire, and a board (think MacGyver style) without touching the floor with our hands or feet. The theme was Super Mario Brothers and I was King Koopa. One of my proudest moments.
What’s the most bizarre comment you’ve heard about why someone didn’t want to conduct research?
During a conversation with a sales rep she was explaining a discussion she had with an account explaining how they had been in their industry for X number of years and basically was the guru on all things regarding their clientele and their needs. Whew, good to know there’s nothing more to learn here!
Everybody has a nerd superpower. What’s yours?
Umm, oh that’s tough, ask my husband and he’d say I am the household consultant for spelling and math.
What’s something you would like to see conclusive research on?
What is the driving factor in the differences between male and female body temperature? I would love to know why my husband is cold when it’s in the 80s outside and he has the heat set on 75!! The gas company must love us, but I think my internal regulator is broken.
